ABOUT FAT

Fashion Art Toronto (FAT) is Canada’s longest-running independent fashion week and a multi-arts non-profit. Founded in 2005 by designer and creative visionary Vanja Vasic, FAT was created to provide an inclusive, accessible space for creatives to express themselves through fashion, art, and cultural production.

For nearly two decades, FAT has served as a cultural engine for Canadian fashion:supporting emerging and established designers, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and building creative infrastructure that prioritizes representation, experimentation, and access.

FAT has established partnerships with leading cultural institutions and organizations including the ROM, The Artist Project, Goethe-Institut, The Bentway, Bata Shoe Museum, Black Designers of Canada, TIFF and CANIFFF and has been featured in leading media including Vogue, ELLE Canada, The Kit, Fashion Magazine, and CP24.

IMPACT

Fashion Art Toronto has played a defining role in shaping Canada’s fashion landscape.

  • Promoting emerging talent by creating access to platforming, visibility, and industry connections. We have platformed over 1000 local designers and artists.

  • Innovation by rejecting rigid commercial formats. In 2020, Fashion Art Toronto produced the world’s first fully live virtual fashion week, presenting 50 digital runway shows across iconic Toronto landmarks .

  • Cultivating Canadian fashion culture by supporting variety of aesthetics; from avant-garde showcases to ready-to-wear runways.

Fashion Art Toronto is committed to community involvement and cultural engagement. FAT partners with like-minded organizations to present and promote Canadian artists and designers through public shows, talks, workshops, and collaborative programming.

ARTIST SUPPORT

Fashion Art Toronto actively lowers barriers to participation by providing ample production & marketing support and reducing financial obstacles for designers and creatives as compared to traditional fashion week formats.

The platform offers:

  • Production infrastructure support (runway production, staging, coordination, technical support)

  • Marketing & Operational support for promotion, presentation and execution

  • Fee waivers and reduced participation costs to improve access for emerging and under-resourced designers

  • Development Opportunities and Support Awards like FASHN DISRPTR awards and Bridge to Berlin programs to recognize and expose exceptional talent to wider audiences.

  • Non-commercial presentation models that prioritize creative expression

This approach allows FAT to constantly work on improving the access of to the platform—removing structural barriers that traditionally limit who can participate in traditional fashion systems.
