People keep looking for one Toronto look. One uniform. One clear-cut identity. And when they do not find it, they assume the city lacks definition.

It does not.

Toronto’s identity is its range. Its mix of cultures, aesthetics, communities, and perspectives is exactly what gives it shape. It is not one look, and it was never meant to be.

That is what a fashion capital should be: not trapped by tradition, and not built on imitation. A city that takes in influence from everywhere and still says something of its own.

For over twenty years, Fashion Art Toronto has been a platform for that voice.

Through its runways and backstage, designers, artists, models, and creatives have moved from early promise to recognition far beyond the city.

Toronto doesn’t have a look. Toronto has every look.

We were never interested in gatekeeping.

From the beginning, our runway was built to hold every story, every vision, every point of view.

For us, “everybody” has always meant every body.

We have staged more than 1,000 runway presentations, worked with thousands of models and artists, and brought fashion and art together long before “cross-disciplinary” became industry language.

In May 2025, our 20th anniversary became a citywide celebration: a month of fashion and art featuring more than 40 shows, installations, and collaborations with press, fashion collectives, and venues across Toronto, turning the city itself into our stage.

But scale alone is not what sets us apart: it is what we have stood for from the start: community-built, radically inclusive, and committed to fashion as both an art form and a real career pathway.

If fashion is not for everybody, it is not fashion.
